Stithians community delighted with new heat pump

Residents in a tiny Cornish village are feeling the benefits of a new ground source heat pump in their local community centre.

Although organisers did not confirm if the heat pump is from a leading manufacturer such as Grundfos, Wilo or Dimplex, they revealed that the hall has been "really warm" since its installation.

Dr Rachel Godwin, from the Stithians centre's management committee, explained that members had felt a responsibility to reduce their carbon footprint, as well as cut heating costs in any way they could.

"Those who have attended meetings in the hall are delighted," she said of the reaction to the heat pump.

"We were so surprised by how warm it is - we didn't quite believe it would heat such a big room until it was working and then our reaction was 'wow'," she added.

Energy company EDF Energy contributed to the cost of installing the pump with a grant of £24,500 - the firm also provides financial help for the installation of devices such as wind turbines, solar panels and biomass boilers.
