Still waiting for a new boiler

A pensioner who was left with no hot water or heating is still waiting for his new boiler.

Dennis Woods, 77, was promised a new boiler in February, as part of the Government's Warm Fronts grant scheme. But when his existing boiler had to be removed because it was emitting carbon monoxide fumes, the new boiler still had not arrived.

And despite the Harrow Times highlighting his plight last week, his new boiler has still not arrived.

Mr Wood's wife, Katherine Taylor, 47, said: "We had a Birko baby boiler delivered, but it's only enough to make 50 cups of tea.

"I have plugged that in in the bedroom and it's better than a kettle but its still not a great deal."

Mr Woods suffered a stroke last year and has diabetes and heart problems. But since his boiler was switched off he has had to do his household chores using water boiled in a kettle.

Warm Fronts promised to deliver a new boiler on Wednesday, but the couple are angry at the way they have been treated.

Mr Woods said: "How can I be happy about this, I'm very cross indeed. To have been left without hot water for over a fortnight, not able to shower, wash or anything, makes me very unhappy."

Mr Woods received an apology letter from Warm Fronts this week, but it was addressed to a Mr Fox instead. Even though Warm Fronts seem to be trying to rectify the situation, the couple are still very angry and considering lodging an official complaint.

Mrs Taylor said: "People like Dennis are treated roughly, like second class citizens. It's so unfair to have to fight for absolutely everything.

"To say they have had his money since February and here we are in August, they don't seem to communicate from one department to the next. It just seems very shoddy."

A spokesman for Warm Fronts said: "In this instance it seems that we have not met the high standards that we set ourselves for customer service.

"I am pleased to be able to say that we are now completing the work on Wednesday to our customer's full satisfaction."
