Schoolchildren get green education at eco-boiler site

An eco-friendly woodchip boiler is just one of the features of a new green homes project in Suffolk.

Schoolchildren from local Elmswell primary school were some of the first people to see the new £4.5 million development, which is a joint initiative between Suffolk Preservation Society and Orwell Housing Association.

Lindsey Bilston, a teacher at the school, told Bury Free Press that the group got to see builders digging a hole for the boiler, which will be used to heat the 26 homes.

"The children really enjoyed it - it's improved their understanding of what can be done in this country to make homes more environmentally friendly," she explained.

Planet-friendly materials used to insulate the properties include hemp and lime spray, which are intended to reduce the need for gas-guzzling heating devices.

Domestic systems specialist Stiebel Eltron recently noted that increasing energy prices have led many households to seek out alternative heating methods, including eco-friendly boiler models.

It singled out biomass boiler devices and heat pump technology as key components of the future's energy-saving heating landscape.
