Reaping benefits of plumber apprentice training

Local employer, Jim Brightman of JC Brightman plumbing and central heating specialists is reaping the rewards of taking on apprentices.

Jim has recently taken on a second apprentice after witnessing the rapid progress of his employee Ashley Eccleston.Ashley successfully completed the National Vocational Qualification level 2 Plumbing apprenticeship training at the college and has now converted on to the level 3 advanced programme which he is due to complete this summer.

Following successful completion he will become a qualified plumbing and gas engineer and will be able to apply for CORGI registration.

Now college student Dean Easterbrook is set to follow in his footsteps by undertaking the apprenticeship training after being offered a full time position with JC Brightman.

Jim says: "My business has benefited greatly from taking on an apprentice. The training support provided by the college has been an essential part of Ashley's success."

Training officer at South Devon College Greg Paull says: "I am very pleased with the progress that both apprentices are making and for the support and commitment that Mr Brightman has given to the apprenticeship programme."

Young people aged 16 to 18 years can receive government-funded training, with employers gaining employees with nationally recognised qualifications.

The apprenticeships have been especially designed to reflect the needs of the employers and to deliver high-quality work-based training.
