Probe into unregistered gas work

The Health and Safety Executive has launched an inquiry into claims that gas fitters have been falsely claiming to be registered.
A number of incidents in the Ashford area have led have given cause for concern, a spokesman said.

One installer was recently prosecuted and fined £4,000 for exposing a woman to carbon monoxide.

The HSE has urged residents to ensure fitters are registered with the Council for Registered Gas Installers (Corgi).

People should ask to see a current Corgi photo ID card which should have a registration number, a trading title, and an expiry date, the spokesman said.

"By law, anyone carrying out work on gas appliances or fittings as part of their business must be competent and registered with Corgi," he said.
