New gas course is ever popular
A SPECIALIST gas training and assessment centre at Darlington College is continuing to support the fight against dangerous practice in the industry with the launch of a new course.
The college is helping to stamp out the menace of rogue gas fitters, whose poor-quality work can lead to cases of carbon monoxide poisoning. The killer gas was responsible for the deaths of two young children staying in a Corfu holiday apartment last year, whose tragic story hit the headlines last month when two Thomas Cook staff were charged by Greek authorities.
Industry watchdog Corgi recently staged a major seminar for companies throughout the North-east at the Haughton Road campus, highlighting what traders can do to tackle the problems.
And the College is now offering a new course in combustion analysis for Corgi-registered gas installers.
The CPA1 course involves half a day’s training and another half day of practical assessment at the College’s purpose-built gas centre.
The session covers all aspects of combustion analysis for anyone working on domestic gas appliances.
Tom Ankers, the College’s gas centre manager, said the course had already proved popular.
“We have a waiting list at the moment, but if people get in touch with us we’ll advise them of the next course date,” he said.
“The course covers some crucial areas, as all Corgi-registered engineers have a duty to ensure that emissions from gas appliances are within the limits set out in safety regulations.”
