New biomass green boiler vital in spreading charity message
A charity in Somerset is to get a new biomass boiler as a result of a cash injection from power company E-ON.
Donated as part of the firm's Source community initiative, the £20,000 grant will enable staff at the Magdalen Project to swap their organisation's ageing gas boiler for a more efficient and eco-friendly model.
Gyles Morris, the Chard-based Magdalen Project's chief executive, explained that the boiler - which will be fuelled by woodchips – is intended to cut carbon emissions by around 56 tonnes every year and will also feature in the centre's educational demonstrations.
"The biomass boiler will provide a hugely important example of renewable energy production to the thousands of children and adults who visit us," he remarked.
Mr Morris added: "It will be a vital factor in helping us to achieve our goal of total energy sustainability here at The Magdalen Project."
This month has seen boiler specialist Glow-worm travelling around UK shopping centres to offer advice to individuals on saving energy and money with a high-efficiency boiler like Chard's new heating and hot water source.
