MANS DEATH WAS ACCIDENT
A launceston financial advisor died after a faulty gas boiler pumped carbon monoxide into his living room, an inquest in Truro heard.
Coroner Dr Emma Carlyon recorded a verdict of accidental death on keen sportsman and lifelong Plymouth Argyle fan Jeffery Allen, 47, who died at his home in Exeter Street on September 19 last year.
A blocked flue had pumped lethal gas back into the house. The boiler, built in 1985, had been serviced 15 months before the tragedy.
Corgi gas inspector John Couch, who tested the system after Mr Allen's death, found a lethal level of carbon monoxide just half an hour after putting the heating on. He said: "Without question there would have been sufficient carbon monoxide to kill Mr Allen. Frequent servicing, and the use of carbon monoxide alarms, is a way of reducing the likelihood of death from carbon monoxide inhalation. On reflection, the appliances could have done with a service."
Det Sgt Paul Norland said: "It would be impossible to apportion blame."
