Landlords urged to take note of energy requirements
People who own rental properties must pay extra attention to the energy efficiency of their heating systems, they have been reminded.
Rental specialists at Letting News issued the reminder ahead of October's introduction of new regulations requiring all properties to possess an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC).
Owners are advised to upgrade their boiler or central heating if necessary, check their insulation and improve the 'airtightness' of windows and doors to minimise energy wastage.
"Landlords have been urged to take note, as prospective tenants would be able to see how energy-efficient and environmentally friendly a property [is]," explained the organisation on its website.
"Those properties that boasted energy-saving measures would most certainly stand out from the crowd," it continued.
Under the government's EPC initiative, properties will be rated from A (excellent) to G (poor) in terms of their energy efficiency and environmental impact.
Boiler manufacturers such as Baxi and Ferroli have produced a range of new green models which will help homeowners conform to the new demands.
