Internet company to join guild

One of the North-East's leading internet companies has become the first in the UK to be accepted into the Guild of Professional and Commercial Web Designers.

Darlington-based Geo-net Solutions is now a full member of the new body which has been set up to establish UK-wide industry standards for businesses providing internet services and to offer customers protection and quality assurance.

To become a recognised member of the guild companies must go through a selection process and meet strict criteria. Geo-net applied for accreditation along with their Geo-XPRESS web publishing software system, a unique web publishing application making website design, production and maintenance easier for customers.

The Guild of Professional and Commercial Web Designers works as an industry symbol similar to the Corgi seal used in the gas industry - the first of its kind in the UK.

Working closely with regional development agencies and the University of Teesside's School of Computing, the Guild has developed a seal which brings benefits to both its members and their customers.

Internet firms must implement the standards in such a way that business users understand the benefits of using a registered member, knowing that each one carries the correct insurance and can actually deliver what is required to a recognised standard.

Geo-net Solutions managing director Peter Bulloch said: "A standard such as this that ordinary business people can clearly understand is long overdue. A website is now far too important a business decision to be left to chance and any sensible buyer would seek the assurance of an independent third-party such as the guild."

Stuart Davies, speaking for the guild, said: "We are delighted to welcome Geo-net as our first registered member. They are a forward thinking company who work closely with clients ensuring quality and standards are maintained at all times. The new Geo-XPRESS is an impressive product and a welcome addition to the market place, going far beyond other systems currently available, outputting high quality fully compliant websites."

Businesses wishing to learn more about the standards set-down by the guild and web designers wishing to apply for membership can do so through their website at www.itmadesafe.org
