Green energy on the agenda with Scottish heat pump scoop
Scottish building owners could be faced with a range of new green heat solutions as a major energy supplier has invested millions in a commercial heat pump installer.
According to The Engineer, Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE) has agreed to inject up to £15 million for a stake in Coventry-based Geothermal International, which specialises in the installation of heating and cooling systems for the UK's commercial construction sector.
SSE chief executive Ian Marchant told the news source that the agreement provides his organisation with access to green heat technologies "that complement the renewable electricity technologies we have already invested in".
He added that the arrangement "reinforces our commitment to offer customers a complete range of renewable energy solutions".
In another heat pump industry development this month, Danish firm Danfoss bought a stake in Sheffield's ECO, which installs eco-friendly systems in homes and commercial buildings.
The Sheffield Star noted that the deal is leading brand Danfoss's sixth acquisition of a heat pump company in under three years.
