Gas poisoning OAP is improving

An elderly woman whose daughter died of suspected carbon monoxide poisoning is improving in hospital.
Valerie Robinson Gallop's body was found at her mother's flat in Rhymney by police who had been called after concerns were raised by neighbours.

Her mother Elizabeth Allcock, 92, was taken to the Prince Charles Hospital in Merthyr Tydfil, where she has now been moved out of intensive care.

Gwent Police are not treating the death as suspicious.

A spokesman for North Glamorgan NHS Trust said Mrs Allcock was "doing well" and was in a stable condition on a medical ward, although she was still under observation.

Forensic experts examined a coal fire at the property on Friday. It is believed Mrs Robinson Gallop had told neighbours of problems with it.

Police say they were called to the property at 1200 GMT on Wednesday.

It is understood Mrs Robinson Gallop was staying with her mother while builders worked on her own home nearby.

Detective Inspector Richard Williams said Mrs Allcock was in a "distressed" state when police found her.

An inquest is to be opened by the Newport coroner on Monday.
