Family Demands Answers After Dad Killed By Gas Fumes At Work

THE grieving family of a security guard found dead at work are demanding answers to the tragedy.

Divorced dad-of-one Tommy Fraser, who had learning difficulties, was found slumped next to a petrol generator.

The 37-year-old is thought to have been overcome by carbon monoxide in a room he used as a security office.

The odourless, colourless gas is known as the "silent killer" and it can poison someone before they realise anything is wrong.

Tommy, who has a teenage daughter, Elizabeth Ann, suffered a brain injury as a baby. He had only basic reading skills and got family or friends to read his mail.

The generator was powering security lighting and heating.

Distraught brother Andrew, 36, said: "We have been told by police that the generator was where it should have been - outside - up until a few days before Tommy died.

"He would not have known the dangers of someone bringing a petrol generator to an enclosed space."

His other brother Robert, 34, said Tommy, of Bellshill, Lanarkshire, had a heart of gold.

He added: "We want answers as to why this generator was in the office."

A fatal accident inquiry is to be held into the February 6 tragedy at a flats development in Ann Street, Hamilton, where Tommy worked for Glasgow firm Alpha Security Group.

On behalf of Alpha director Marie Daly, lawyer Murray Macara said the Health and Safety Executive and the security industry regulatory body were investigating.

He added "Marie Daly is extremely upset regarding the circumstances, which are no clearer to the company than they are to you. They did not provide the generator."
