FIRM WARNS ABOUT SILENT KILLER DANGER

A heating equipment firm is urging merchants and installers to warn homeowners of the dangers of carbon monoxide poisoning this winter.

Pts, of Lutterworth, is to lead an awareness campaign from January 14 until January 19. The company is creating posters and information packs, which will be distributed through merchants.

In 2006, 42 people died and 177 were injured from carbon monoxide poisoning, named the silent killer that you cannot see or smell.

Symptoms include severe headaches, chest or stomach pains, drowsiness, nausea, dizziness and lethargy. They are often ignored, with fatal consequences.

PTS managing director Alan Ball said: "I felt it was important that we took the first step in raising awareness at trade counters. I wrote to the managing directors of other merchants because a co-ordinated approach will have a bigger impact.

"Hopefully, our campaign week will be just the start of targeting this problem and encouraging the installer to be aware of these issues when talking to homeowners."

PTS has more than 20,000 customers in the domestic heating, plumbing and sanitaryware market. It is part of BSS Group, the £1 billion-turnover plumbing and heating equipment supplier based in Lee Circle, Leicester.
