Energy saving improvements do not have to be pricey
UK residents can energy-proof their homes and improve heating systems without breaking the bank, according to experts at the Energy Saving Trust.
Zoltan Zovody, strategy manager for the organisation, pointed out that significant savings can in fact be made by adding or improving existing insulation and heating devices.
"We have worked out that homeowners can save up to £250 a year off their fuel bills by following our top tips such as adding insulation, turning down your thermostat by one degree and using energy-efficient bulbs," he explained.
Mr Zovody went on to note that putting a jacket on one's water tank can be as effective as cavity wall or loft insulation, while he also observed that a range of grants are available to planet-conscious homeowners.
Data from the National Insulation Association suggests that around 40 per cent of all the heat lost in the average home goes through loft spaces and walls.
The Energy Saving Trust has predicted that if all houses with unfilled cavity walls were kitted out with adequate insulation, the energy saved could heat 1.4 million homes every year.
