Couple for trial over death of Brazilian tenants
A COUPLE, both doctors, have been sent for trial in connection with the deaths of two Brazilian men who were staying in a house they owned.
Ralph and Elaine Keane (left) of Rich Hill House, Lisnagry, Limerick, appeared at Gort District Court yesterday.
Father of two Erly da Silva (44) and Roberto Ramons (27) who had a daughter, were found dead in the rented house at Cloonahaha, Gort, Co Galway.
Their bodies were found when friends became concerned and called to the bungalow on the Ennis Road. They died from carbon monoxide poisoning.
Supt Jim O'Connor told Judge Joseph Mangan that the Book of Evidence had now been served.
The Keanes are charged that they "intentionally or recklessly engaged in conduct that did fail to service or maintain an indoor oil burner and provide adequate ventilation which created a substantial risk of death or serious harm to another on a date between November 30 and December 1 2005." They were sent for trial to Galway Circuit Criminal Court on October 2.
The two men who died were both married and had been in Ireland for less than a year.
