Corfu dad has brain damage from gas
THE father of the West Yorkshire youngsters killed on holiday by deadly carbon monoxide has been left with permanent brain damage.
Neil Shepherd, 38, and his partner Ruth Beatson, 27, were left in a coma after the poisoning last October in Corfu.
Neil's children Christianne, seven, and her brother Robert, six, from Horbury in Wakefield, were on a half-term break when fumes leaked from a boiler into their holiday bungalow on the Greek island.
Mr Shepherd and Ms Beatson were unable to save the youngsters before the couple blacked out and were found the next morning by a maid at the Louis Corcyra Beach Hotel.
Now Mr Shepherd has revealed tests had shown he had permanent brain damage from the gas. He said: "We have lost our children, that is hard enough, and we have got health problems to worry about for the rest of our lives."
Ms Beatson, who is still awaiting the results of tests, said: "We can have a conversation with each other or on the phone and a minute later we have forgotten what we were talking about."
