Cooker fire started by toddler
SMOKE alarms alerted a family when a toddler turned on a gas cooker hob and started a fire. The incident in Valley Road, Banbury happened at just after 7.30pm on Saturday evening. Two fire appliances from Banbury attended but the fire had already been put out by the occupants after their two smoke alarms activated.
Luckily there were no injuries but the pair had to be treated for smoke inhalation at the Horton Hospital.
Crew manager Jon Laight said: "Once again smoke detectors have alerted a family to a fire in the home which prevented anyone from being seriously hurt.
"The property had two functioning smoke detectors and a carbon monoxide detector which all activated very quickly, without these detectors the incident could have been a lot worse.
"The residents managed to extinguish the small fire but Oxfordshire County Council Fire and Rescue Service recommends that people should not tackle any fires in the home and leave the property and call the fire service."
