Buderus boiler ensures optimum heat transfer
Leading boiler manufacturer Buderus has scooped a prestigious design award for one of its popular gas models.
The GB162 wall-mounted boiler was recognised by product design specialist iF for its innovation and efficiency.
Builders Merchants Journal reports that that the boiler's advanced Alu-Plus engine-block heat exchanger particularly caught the eye of judges in the 'industry and buildings' category.
Intended to give optimum condensing performance, low maintenance and durability, the heat exchanger has been constructed by Buderus from lightweight cast aluminium silicate and "finned" for maximum surface area.
The publication explains: "It incorporates a unique twisted flow channel, which creates a micro-turbulence and brings more water into contact with the heating surface to ensure optimum heat transfer."
Buderus has previously been given the European Aluminium Award for 'machinery and electronics' for using aluminium to increase the surface area inside its boiler products' heat exchangers, thereby improving water flow.
The firm's popularity recently expanded across the pond, with representatives announcing that Buderus' solar thermal water heating systems would be made available to US residential and commercial customers early this year.
