Boiler group Vaillant reveals positive green progres

The UK domestic heating sector has already made a significant dent in the country's carbon footprint, one leading boiler manufacturer has claimed.

According to the Vaillant group, the move by many homeowners to replace older boiler models with energy-efficient devices has cut emissions by around five million tonnes since the mid-1990s.

Representatives for the firm urged leaders to encourage wider uptake of green heat sources in light of the development.

"We estimate there are around four million old, inefficient boilers still installed and operating in UK homes," Vaillant's UK managing director, Jim Moore, told H&V News.

"The government should make a concerted effort to incentivise householders to replace these," he continued.

Mr Moore cited figures from Vaillant's latest research, which suggested that more than 150,000 tonnes of carbon could be saved every year if just ten per cent of the three million new homes leaders hope to build by 2020 have either a solar hot water system or heat pump to supplement traditional heating technologies.

Fellow boiler manufacturer Trianco notes that homeowners who invest in a green boiler or similar heat source also face significant savings in heating bills
