Alternative heat sources are step in the right direction towards energy efficiency
Turning to alternative energy sources, such as ground and air source heat pumps, is a step in the right direction for homes and businesses keen to cut their carbon emissions, it has been claimed.
David Emery, the managing director of renewable energy company Natural Power Wales, said the provision of insulation and energy-efficient heat sources in new buildings would enable individual enterprises to do their bit in the battle against climate change.
In an article for Wales' Western Mail, the energy specialist explained that combining micro-generated renewable energy with a green tariff can make a building's energy consumption carbon-neutral.
"For example, a heat pump requires electricity to run the pump and compressor, so ideally this should be obtained on a green tariff so that it comes from wind power or another renewable source," he wrote.
"Achieving low carbon standards through insulation and under-floor heating, though, is a step in the right direction."
Leading pump manufacturer Dimplex recently claimed to have "cracked the code" for sustainable buildings by providing heat pump installer training for plumbing and heating professionals.
